Remote Data Acquisition – Advanced Connectivity Options
Sometimes your sensors or the piece of equipment you are trying to control is not in a convenient place to have a PC close by. The sensors may be widely distributed through out your plant and it just wouldn’t be cost effective to run all your wiring to where the PC is.
In addition, low level signals are more accurately acquired when digitized close to the signal source. In all these cases our REMOTE ACCES line of products will help. The REMOTE ACCES pods are intelligent, sensor to computer interfaces. Each pod can be used as an autonomous data logger to acquire data for later download. Or as many as 31 pods may be connected on a single two wire multidrop RS-485 network allowing a cable distance of up to 4000 ft.
You can also go wireless and extend your range by adding RS-485 wireless transceivers to your serial port. Each unit comes in a rugged NEMA 4 enclosure and can withstand harsh industrial and marine environments.

SNAP 2-Axis Quadrature Position Input Module
The SNAP-IDC5Q quadrature input module is designed to allow a SNAP brain to resolve two axes of rotating position information from quadrature encoder devices. The module outputs a pulse to the brain upon each change in quadrature state. The brain counts the module output pulses and keeps track of the direction and position.
The SNAP-IDC5Q is used with SNAP-PAC-EB1 brains and SNAP-PAC-R1 controllers. The module is also fully compatible with legacy SNAP-B3000-ENET and SNAP-UP1-ADS brains, as well as B3000 and B3000-HA brains using the mistic protocol.
The SNAP-IDC5Q can be used with most quadrature devices, including transducers with TTL, CMOS, and open collector outputs. All inputs are isolated from each other and do not share any common connections.
Part of the SNAP PAC System, the module mounts on a SNAP PAC rack with a SNAP PAC brain or rack-mounted controller. Analog, digital, and serial I/O modules can all be on the same rack. Such an I/O unit is also well suited for PC-based control or for use as intelligent remote I/O for an Allen-Bradley Logix PLC system, such as ControlLogix, MicroLogix, or CompactLogix.

Application Note: Filtering in Signal Conditioning Modules, SCMs
Signal conditioning modules, SCMs, used for measuring process control variables such as temperature, pressure, strain, position, speed, level, etc. are always subject to externally induced noise signals. Electrically and magnetically induced noise voltages/currents are inevitable. Field sensors with output voltages in the millivolt range are certainly degraded by induced noise levels on the order of volts. Consequently, signal conditioning modules must provide filtering to eliminate induced noise components.
Hundreds of articles and text books have been written on filters that provide a multitude of frequency characteristics such as the Bessel, Butterworth, Chebyshev, Cauer, etc. In-depth reviews of this information are beyond the scope and intent of this document. The objective of this application note is a brief review of filter fundamentals primarily focused on the amplitude response of low-pass (LP) filters needed in industrial signal conditioning modules.
