IDS Imaging Products

IDS stands for modular, powerful USB, GigE and 3D cameras with a great range of sensors and variants. With IDS NXT, they are presenting a completely new generation of vision app-based sensors and cameras - unlimited possibilities for applications of the future.

True to their philosophy "It's so easy!" all their industrial cameras are perfectly compatible and easy to handle. Simplicity means efficiency. Since it was founded as a two-person company back in 1997, IDS has developed into a successful, independent and ISO certified family company.

IDS cameras are used in an almost unlimited range of applications. They can be found in equipment, plant, and mechanical engineering in sectors including the automotive, packaging, and printing industry, as well as in food technology. Industrial cameras from IDS also provide the indispensable eyes for numerous applications in robotics, medical technology, traffic monitoring, security, kiosk systems, and logistics. Whether in an industrial or non-industrial setting: our CMOS cameras assist companies worldwide in optimizing processes, ensuring quality, driving research, conserving raw materials, and serving people.

IDS extends its existing uEye range of cameras with a new series of Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) CCD cameras. With high bandwidth and 100m cable lengths GigE offers distinct advantages with the use of a standard network connection. Recently released at the VISION show in Stuttgart Germany the iDS Imaging uEye GigE range offers excellent value, ease-of-use and much more.

The new GigE uEye series currently features 17 new models with colour and monochrome sensors ranging from 640x480 pixels up to 2560x1920 pixels. These GigE cameras demonstrate the same winning attributes of the uEye USB2 cameras. They are industrially proven, compact, robust and innovative.

• The CMOS camera is protected against dirt, dust, splash water or cleaning agents (IP65/67)
• Internal 120 MB image memory
• Extensive range of accessories such as cables suitable for use as drag chains

IDS NXT vegas - Vision App-Based Sensor
• Versatile due to expandable image processing functionality with self-generated vision apps
• Available with full HALCON embedded runtime license and IDS NXT Software Development Kit (SDK)
• Communication with SPS and other machine control systems via RS-232 interface
• Delivers pre-processed data or completed results

Ensenso N series -
Stereo 3D Camera, Ingenious in 3 Dimensions

• Realtime 3D data with 30 fps at full resolution
• Simple capture of textureless surfaces with integrated pattern projector
• Multi-camera operation for object detection from different sides
• Working distances up to 3,000 mm depending on model

Under the hood of the cameras are two processor cores that provide sophisticated and innovative capabilities with superior performance. The iDS GigE cameras use either a CCD or CMOS sensor. They are housed in a standard sized compact enclosure 38x38x98.5mm and weigh only 175 grams. The housing design allows for mounting at 90/180 degrees without having to create new holders.

The iDS GigE cameras feature a trigger input and a strobe output which are both optically decoupled. They also have an RS232 interface and two GPIO ports that can be configured either as digital inputs or digital outputs. Other features include full control of all parameters such as exposure time, gain etc. The iDS GigE camera series also feature Area of Interest modes with increased frame rate, Binning, Sub-Sampling and will interface to most commercial vision software packages such as Sherlock, CommonVisionBlox, Neurocheck, Labview, Halcon, ActiveVision and others.

The Plug and Play Camera Manager from IDS makes installation and integration just as easy as with their USB cameras. The software development kit is identical which means that upgrading to the GigE does not require any changes to the application and takes only a few minutes.

Redefining the industrial camera

Industrial camera feature sets constantly evolve. Although users can import these new functions themselves, they have no influence on the range of functions. IDS offers a solution: Vision App-based industrial cameras of the IDS NXT series can be extended by self-programmed apps which are also provided as standard-compliant features.

In addition to the firmly integrated features from the manufacturer, the IDS NXT concept also enables the user to provide GenICam-compliant functionalities loaded during runtime via the camera description file.

Industrial cameras are currently supplied with new features and bug fixes via update packages provided by the manufacturer. This allows users to extend the capabilities of their own cameras that are already in the field, giving them more opportunities for their image processing applications. A so-called "dynamic" UI (User Interface) is required to query the current camera functions.

The GenAPI UI (Generic Application Programming Interface) enables this feature query for a GenICam-compliant industrial camera. In addition to the standard feature list (defined by the "Standard Feature Naming Convention"), GenICam also allows user-defined functions to be integrated into the camera's feature node map. Camera manufacturers use this possibility, for example, to offer special custom features that are not (yet) included in the vision standard. However, it depends on the manufacturer when their cameras get an update and which features it includes.

Application scaling

IDS NXT in conjunction with the Smart GenICam App enables the scaling of a GenICam-compliant machine vision application between camera and PC. This means that users can decide, depending on the required performance, whether their application is to be executed classically on a PC workstation, completely independently on the camera, or cooperatively distributed on both devices

There are several reasons for pre-processing images or pre-selecting data on the camera (on the edge), rather than continuously transferring large amounts of data to a PC - such as lower network load, hardware-accelerated processing, less energy consumption, lower system costs, to name just a few.
