Introduction to OPTO 22

If you are new to OPTO 22, you will be knocked over by these products. OPTO 22s range of products and their industrial measurement and control ability, is beyond the scope of almost all other distributed I/O companies, usually at a fraction of the cost.
Their flow chart software tools are very easy to us.
Typical uses for OPTO 22 products:
Power Control : OPTO 22 are makers of Solid State Relays (SSRs)
- AC or DC controlled AC SSR switching modules
- DC controlled DC SSR switching modules.
The OPTO 22 range extends all the way up to 575 VAC 45 amps, with isolation to 4000VAC. Current surges can be 10 times rating.
PLC/Controller Isolation I/O: Save your PLCs
- Isolated output SSRs modules
- Input isolated converters and level shifting modules.
This is how you do it. Select and OPTO 22 backplane, plug in the isolation input and output modules and connect ot the PLC. The backplanes allow easy connection to PLC/PSC/Controllers.
For Switched AC or DC Outputs.
- AC switches (12-280VAC 3amps)
- DC switches (5-60VDC 3amps, 5-200VDC 1 amp).
The DC logic output levels required from the PLC/Controller to control these AC and DC switches may be 24, 15 or 5 VDC.
So in one step, these Output modules switch, isolate and operate on industry standard PLC logic levels.
For AC or DC Inputs
- Monitor AC and DC signals (12-280VAC and 4-280VDC).
The DC logic levels produced from the Input modules to the PLC/Controller may be 24, 15 or 5 VDC.
So in one step, these Input modules level shift, convert, isolate and give industry standard logic levels.
All modules, in and out have 4000 V isolation. (They are guaranteed for life)
PC based Distributed Measurement and Control (GSM,Ethernet, RS-485, Arcnet, Fiber)
From a PC connect to any OPTO 22 backplane with Digital I/O modules, Outputs use Solid State Relays (SSR) and Inputs use level shifters and converter modules, for analog I/O use analog measurement modules RTDs, thermocouples, current, voltage, encoders, counters, and analog control output modules with current and voltage, also set up PID loops, counting, pulse measurement, time delay, PWM and latching etc. This is a type of SoftPLC, OPTO 22 invented this technology in the 70s and the Pamux (parallel high speed) and OPTOMUX (RS-232/485) software protocols are industry standards. Use Factory Floor on NT, IEC-1131-3, LabVIEW, Lookout and almost any SCADA software, even VB.
SNAP Controller based Distributed Measurement and Control
(GSM, Ethernet,RS-485, Arcnet, Fiber, Profibus, DeviceNet)
This is OPTO 22s workhorse distributed product and it is based around the Flow Chart programming system called OPTO CONTROL, part of the Factory Floor software suite. Build multitasking control and measurement strategies on a PC and then run as Soft Logic on an NT workstation or download to a Non-PC OPTO 22 network controller for bullet proof control. This can be a redundant controller also. Control local networked backplanes and OPTO 22 modules, RTUs, remote backplanes, drive printers, laser scanners, bar code readers etc.
